Nivi snapped out of watching the beautiful colours and listening and feeling the song "uh, see magic, no, I feel that there is magic here though, but I can't really tell what kind or how it works."
"You have no spell for seeing magic?" I ask surprised.
Nivi looks into my eyes "no, I was never taught such a spell, I would love to know one though. Will you teach me that?" she says the last bit with hopeful excitement.

I frown a little bit "not the best representation of magic, I will have to teach you my way later, but let me think." I furrow my brow and tilt my head as I translate the spell I have always active into elven magical script, there are a few symbols I am not sure about though, and I make the spell form hover as an illusion before her so she can read it.
Nivi looks at it intently and seems not quite used to this representation, but her eyes go wide "it is much clearer when you split it up like this, I can see what order things need to go, but I don't know what those two symbols mean, I think they are some sort of energy, can you bring a tiny amount of it into existence so I can touch it, as that is how I learn new energies."
I nod "alright, but one of them is not very comfortable to touch, but I can heal you if you get hurt." I make the symbols be made out of their energies "just touch the symbols.
Nivi touches them both and one of them is a type of magic and it sends a convulsion and tingle across her body, the other is the hunger of the negative energy plane and it hurts her finger "ow!" she cries and her finger looks badly hurt.
I simply touch her finger and send enough healing energies into it that she recovers "can you cast this spell now?" I ask and caress her cheek and look into her eyes.
Nivi looks it over again "I understand it I think, let me down though, I need to be able to move freely." and I let her down and then she makes a strange full body dance and sings a beautiful arcane song, neither of those are part of the spell, but I see what they do for her, they help her mind focus and bring into existence the different energies the spell requires and then as they are all brought into being she weaves them in her mind into the form of the spell and then makes the spell manifest, and her silvery grey eyes shimmer like moon and starlight and she looks around "whoa, this is crazy, even more beautiful now than when I could just see the real light."
I smile and see that she managed to cast the spell correctly, though it has a few quirks to it, but we should be seeing mostly the same things now. "Good then I can tell you about these spell forms the crystals are using, the spells are not artificial but rather part of their own nature, you see how they have lines of swirling energy going between them, sharing energy with each other."
Nivi walks up and traces one of the lines in the air "this?"
"Yeah that is one. You can also see these branching structures, and how they have tiny little funnels at the ends, and when you or I get close they pull a tiny amount of energy from us into themselves and that is when they start glowing more and singing, you can see how they sometimes draw a tiny amount of it from the mushroom forest behind us too." I explain and point out the small motes of energy being pulled from us and the more distant forest.
Nivi watches it all in amazement "yeah it is beautiful."
I smile and can understand why she is not seeing it "also you can see those small rays of magic that shoot out at us from time to time, just before we feel a rush of euphoria."
Nivi giggles "mmm yeah those feel so good."
I chuckle "these things are draining energy from us, though at a slow pace, if we do not have food, water and get enough sleep they can kill us, and yet we do not feel the pain due to the euphoria they induce, and the beautiful lights and music are mesmerizing too."
Nivi looks at me surprised "they hurt us?"
I nod "though not all that much, I think they do less harm than snow does, but if you don't eat and drink and sleep, even snow can drain all your life, and you also need warm clothes or a fire to keep you safe from snow, so these are much more harmless, except if you look around here, you see how the only living things are these crystals, this cavern is completely sterile except for them, none of that soft soil or even the spores of the mushrooms in here, there should be, but is not, so now you know that they have eaten all the life that comes into this cave. You don't have to worry though, as long as we eat enough, drink enough and sleep enough, well as long as you do those things, you will survive and not take any permanent damage from it, humans might be more frail though, and really given how good this place feels and looks I would have risked staying here a while even as a human, but not sleep in here."

Tainted with negative energy, it is not hurting me that they pull that from me, nor is it hurting the crystals, but they are not getting what they really want from me, I am not alive the same way you are, even my humanoid form is not quite alive that way because I do not need it to be yet, and if my humanoid form was, the worst they could do is rip that apart if I stayed here for a few weeks."
Nivi watches the motes of different types of energy from herself, from me, and from the mushrooms "I see they are different, but I can't quite grasp how, will you teach me more about that later?"
I chuckle "yes, seeing the magic and energies around you is only the first step, then you need to see different spells you know, and energies you know and how they look, that way you will start understanding more things, and I will teach you spells to draw some of the things you see into yourself so you can truly feel what they are, kind of like when you touch energies, only much more careful and controlled, I can teach you that spell now if you like."
Nivi's eyes sparkle and she makes a cute little bounce "yes, I want to learn more things! You are the best mentor ever!"
I laugh and make another illusion appear with the elven magical script.
Her eyes widen as she sees the magic for the illusion spell being woven before her as well. "Oooh can you show me how to weave that type of illusion too please, I want to compare the elven script to the form I see with my eyes."
I make a second illusion with that spell in elven script for her
She studies it intently "do you represent magic like it really looks when you make it or do you have another representation? Can you show me these spells as you represent them please, I want to understand."
I chuckle "yes something close to that" and I create three more illusions "see magic, pull energy, and illusionary script as I represent them." she looks at those intently and really focused, comparing them and seems to become oblivious to the crystals and me being here at all and I lean back against a crystal and watch her with a smile on my face, I know how she feels, I also carefully study the funnels the crystals have, they are really interesting to me and I compare them to my own life draining tendrils of negative energy and I carefully alter my own magical form, so I can feed off the type of energy they do, rather than rip life from people, I can just rip energy that they can recover with time and I smile as I try it out on Nivi and feel her wonderful energy flow into me, I even create some euphoria rays and she notices me using them on her after a while and her eyes go wide "Iswas, you learned to do what the crystals do?"
"Some of what they do yes, I can probably glow and sing too, but not in this form." I say and smile at her.

Nivi kisses me "I am so going to make this up for you" and she giggles as she leaps down to the ground and looks at the spells and then she starts trying the spells out, still doing her wonderful to watch dance and arcane song as she casts the spells, she starts with pull energy and samples the motes drawn from herself, the motes from the mushroom forest and the motes from me and also the energy from the lines between crystals, and she even pulls some straight from inside the crystal and then they send a spark at her and she yelps "sorry crystal I won't do that again, I was just curious." she says and giggles. She then draws some illusionary scripts in the air and bends the spell to allow her to create images of animals and plants, I smile at that, she figured out how to bend that spell to her own whims, very good. I look at her spell form and raise an eyebrow "that should work, but you can make it a little bit more efficient there." I point and draw another illusion for the part I would alter.

I gaze into her eyes and consider "I think it is my conscience reminding me of what I did, to become what I am, though what I did was not what I intended to do, and I think I prevented myself from ever doing it too." I know that sounds cryptic to her, and I see her trying to grasp it.
"What did you do?" Nivi asks curiously.
I gaze into her eyes "I..." I feel tears welling up in my eyes "I destroyed the world when I became a lich, I never intended for the spell to do that, I thought it would destroy my laboratory only, but it fed upon the energy of the things it destroyed and the wave grew and grew, and then the world was gone. I travelled back in time though and I have prevented my own birth, and in so doing I saved my mother's life and my mother's and father's happiness, as my mother died giving birth to me, and now she is alive and happy with a daughter, and I will not destroy this timeline, as I don't exist here."

I don't think I understand... but I will trust what you said, you are clearly not a bad man now, at least not to me, and you have helped so many people, I don't understand how that kind of person could also want to become a lich, and everything, but I only care about who you are now, not who you might have been in the past, if that makes sense?"
I gaze into her eyes and I feel like I do not deserve someone like Nivi, I am not sure if she really believes me, how could she, the world is clearly here and so am I, time travel is not something even I fully understand, I just really hope that whatever I did when I made myself does not in some way come back to haunt me, but I manage to push that thought out of my mind, and I smile and pull her into a kiss and caress her back and as I break from the kiss I say "I love you Nivi and I do not deserve someone like you in my life."

I have learned to take only a little life force from people, and I actually do that from everyone I save from dying, as if I save them from dying and I take from them a week of life, and they would have died soon without my aid and now have many more years to look forward to, I think that is a fair exchange, I hope that does not sound evil to you though, it might just be an excuse, but it is how I manage to cope with being what I am and not being a mass murderer."
