Part 4
Tyrissa peered out from under the edge of the tarp. She had made it nearly all the way through the Greenly Woods before the storm had broke. Ivaarhomme was perhaps four hours away. As the rain began she had pitched the tarp to form a crude lean-to shelter in the lee of a fallen tree. It had provided protection from the wind and rain, allowing her and Greybeard to spend the night relatively dry.
While her horse finished his breakfast of oats she began to break camp, carefully drying the tarp as much as possible before rolling it up and securing it behind her saddle. Seeing the horse had finished his meal she filled his bowl with water. Her meal consisted of some jerky, hardtack biscuits and a handful of dried apple chips. She offered some of the fruit pieces to Greybeard, who eagerly accepted them. He whinnied when she pulled her hand away.
"No, you had enough. Anymore and I'll have to roll you to Ivaarhomme. Look at that fat belly of yours, Old Horse."
Greybeard snorted and favored her with a baleful look. Tyrissa laughed, at least until he stepped on her foot.
"Ok horse, in that case we can gallop to the city gates, since you have so much energy this morning."
The stallion responded by pawing the ground, eager to be off. Tyrissa finished breaking camp, the food and horse's bowl tucked into her backpack. The ground was wet but not overly muddy and they made good time. It was still before noon when they rode through the city gates.
