Anyway after it sucks all that phlogiston into itself it will convert half of it into magical energy and release that into the rest as air, lightning and fire, the combination of those will create quite a spectacular explosion."

"Can't that explosion cascade outward for a really long distance?" I ask, and a moment later I realize that there must have been explosions before outside the shells and that it did not in fact destroy everything everywhere, so I feel a bit dumb.

Vix tilts her head and then says "it might spread further than we want, but I think it is very unlikely it will ignite all of the phlogiston, and even if it does the crystal spheres will probably not break from it, but the light from the explosion might singe things inside the spheres, if it were to reach a sphere, but it is very unlikely, and given that our home world is close to here you realize we think the risk is very low even very unlikely, as phlogiston at least usually needs air to burn and explode, and that air should be consumed in that explosion too."

Pix nods "I don't think that will happen, it may still create a rather strong wave through the phlogiston though, a ripple that might push things off course a bit and reroute flows and maybe destroy and create flows, I am not entirely sure how stable those things are, and I have seen big ships explode before and it has not destroyed my own ship though yes it nearly set fire to some things. I am more worried about us getting away before it goes off though, and maybe riding the wave will be a bit interesting."

I look out at the rainbow luminous fog that surrounds the ship, I wonder how Pix navigates this and knows she is heading the right way, it is easier to follow a flow, being off flow like this is scary, and I imagine a wave on top of that and I really don't like that "are you sure we can find your home after being pushed off course by a giant wave?"

We start flying out through the rocks and then we see a wave of distortions as something big rushes after us from below, rocks spraying in a chaotic expanding pattern we clear the rocks at the same time as Shadrax, who looks at us with his baleful forty three yellow glowing eyes, seeing us somehow, he swipes at us with his claws and they pass straight through the ship without damage, we start to accelerate slowly away from him, but he is also increasing speed, it is just that we are doing it quicker, we can see the harpoon being still attached to him and right now we are way too close to him for our own good "we need more speed Vix, draw on my energy" I say.

"How?!" Vix says and is very unsure how to do this, Shadrax is out of reach of us now though and Pix says "I think we can switch places" and they do and our phasing drops and Shadrax opens his large maw and a blast of pale yellow energy washes over the ship rocking it violently "fuck!"
